Ring-billed Gull at the River

 

Watercolor, gouache and ink on 9.5 x 7 inch cold-pressed Arches paper.

I live by the Detroit River in Wyandotte and walk there frequently to admire all the gulls. Here is a watercolor of a male gull perched on the fence at Bishop Park.

Over the summer, I took a watercolor class with Donna Gonzalez at the Downriver Council for Arts, and she challenged me to do a monochrome river rock project. I used deep turquoise Japanese watercolor paint, which a touch of rose for variety on just one of the rocks.

My first time using my new Japanese watercolor set. I had no idea what I would paint my boyfriend for Valentine's Day, and then this happened- based on his new Dungeons & Dragons character. I went over the watercolor with black pen.

On one of my visits to Michigan, my boyfriend and I spent the day watching old Transformers cartoons. I painted Arcee for his Valentine’s card because it reminded me of that day and how much fun we had.

I painted this fantasy mushroom scene for my boyfriend's birthday and finished it with black pen for definition. It was inspired by a beautiful, unforgettable experience we shared together.
